Meet Us at the BIG Festival in Brazil

Ah, Brazil, the land of fun: Carnival, bikini bods, and of course, independent games. I will be attending the game-oriented BIG Festival in São Paulo starting June 24.

Brazil is a legitimately important player in mobile, with about 64 million smartphone users, according to eMarketer. The country accounts for 34 percent of all mobile sessions in Latin America, according to Flurry.

BIG is the most significant game conference for the country, and it is growing larger every year. The 2016 conference claimed 18,000 visitors, with 2,400 professionals attending. This year, it’s expected to be even larger, as Brazil becomes one of the world’s hottest markets for games.

Much of the growth is driven by an explosion in advertising. Like a lot of developing markets, it’s hard to build a critical mass of in-app purchases from Brazilian users, especially for casual games. But it’s not hard to get them to watch ads -- especially rewarded ads. Chartboost, one of the largest international players, charted a 63 percent year-over-year session growth in Brazil going into 2016.

If you’ll be at BIG, look out for me and let's grab a cup of coffee. Shoot me an email to schedule a chat, or just find me walking by to say hello. See you there!
